Wonderfully beneficial study for your district and special education students! You seem to have your target questions formulated which will be present on your survey to teachers and students. How do you plan to implement the survey- online tool or paper? Teachers and students are notoriously bad at completing surveys if left to their own devices. What plans do you have in place to ensure that you get the necessary feedback/data in order to move forward with your project?
ReplyDeleteHi Sara!
ReplyDeleteI am very interested in the topic of your study. Assistive technology is an area I do not know a great deal about even though I'm an instructional technology specialist.
I think using action research as a way to get to know your new district is also a wonderful idea. I wonder if you could gain more momentum in the project by just starting with what you observe and what the teachers and students perceptions are from the time you begin with the new district as opposed to trying to go back and compile anecdotal data from the previous school year? It may be that their current status along with the expertise you are brininging into the district might serve as the perfect starting point.
Also I wonder if your study might get more quantitative results if you focus on just one or two types of technologies rather than trying to assess what all types of technologies are doing for all special education students. The success you saw with Kurzweil in your previous district might serve as a good place to start if your current district is not leveraging that technology to help students who need text read aloud to them.
Just some suggestions. I think you have an excellent idea and topic for action research!
